The ICC Young Arbitrator Forum (YAF) is hosting, with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, an event entitled “The Role of the Arbitrator: Adjudicator, Truth-Seeker, Mediator?” to be held in Paris on 2 June.

With the rise of international arbitration as the preferred method of resolving international disputes comes an increasing sophistication of the process and diversity of stakeholders. How does this affect the role of arbitral tribunals? How do they balance the interests of the parties and the legitimacy of the arbitral process? Do they fulfil a quasi-judicial function? How far should arbitrators go in search of the truth? Is their role purely adjudicative or should they facilitate other forms of dispute resolution?

Participants will hear different perspectives on the role of arbitral tribunals from practitioners, arbitrators and the ICC Court secretariat, and will have the opportunity to share their own insights with the panel.

The ICC YAF Conference will be an ideal forum for young practitioners to exchange thoughts on international arbitration, and to enrich their network.

Who should attend?

This conference is aimed at arbitration practitioners of approximately 40 years and under: counsel, arbitrators, corporate counsel and academics.
