Counterfeit remains a far-reaching problem, jeopardising the health and safety of EU citizens and affecting industry intellectual property rights. Complications are increasing due to eCommerce, a trend which causes millions of small parcels entering the market each day and challenging authorities’ and industry resources in fighting abuse. To tackle the widespread problem, stakeholders in the supply chain – industry, customs authorities, and logistics providers – have to join forces in a cross-border context.

A piece of technology such as Blockchain could foster this collaboration. During this seminar, we will shed light on this technology’s potential to combat counterfeit. After starting the session with the technology’s basic principles and some recent trends, a panel will discuss several hot topics in Blockchain development, specifically in an international trade and IP enforcement context. The head of the Belgian Customs department Kristiaan Vanderwaeren will close the day with some conclusions.

During the Spring Drink after the seminar, attendants will be able to experience the technology through real-life demos.
